I am relatively new to FreeBSD, and am having a problem using the RPM
package. All binaries have been upgraded to RELENG_2_2, and the latest
version of the RPM package is installed. The kernel is compiled to
support Linux emulation.

When attempting to load software distributed with the RPM system, I get
an error message stating "can not open /var/lib/rpm/packages". When RPM
is installed under Linux that directory path is created and several files
are placed in the rpm directory. When rpm is loaded on FreeBSD the path
is not created nor is anything installed. The software in question is
RedHat's port of ApplixWare.

I have RedHat and the Applix package installed on my system, and if I
mount the RedHat volume and run Applix on FreeBSD using Linux emulation
it runs just fine. I would like to install and run it on FreeBSD as I
prefer FreeBSD to Linux.

Please, can anyone help me out with this. Thanks Frank
