I'm using the same (modulo rev. level) card,
 with no problems so far:

de0: <Digital 21140A Fast Ethernet> rev 0x20 int a irq 12 on pci0.10.0
de0: SMC 9332BDT 21140A [10-100Mb/s] pass 2.0
de0: address 00:00:c0:e7:69:ef

My card comes up in 10Mb/sec with no problems. I have not
tried it at 100 Mb/sec yet. It should sense this from
your hub. If it is not coming up in the correct mode,
one (slim?) possibility is that your hub/wiring are
almost (10Mb/sec has worked before on this port?) but
not quite correct.
