FreeBSD certainly seems to be the favorite for BIG sites (like ftp.cdrom.com),
but I find that a good Slackware system beats the packages/ports system
for amount of software available and ease of installation (*PERSONAL
OPINION*).  However, comparisons are sometimes tricky because of the
number of different Linux distributions---advantages of FreeBSD over
Debian may make no sense in a FreeBSD vs. Slackware or RedHat discussion.

Personally, I've got one machine running each...
