When you say "using the ports collection", I also assume that you're
using the 2.1.6/2.1.7 ports collection as distributed on CD or as
specifically marked at the FTP site?

If you try to use the -current ports collection with 2.1.7 then yes,
much will fail.  That is because the -current ports collection is only
for -current.
