OK, I may be a unix dummy, but I have been building and running them for
about 10 years now, but, I am having fits trying to get X11 up on a 3.0-snap
box.

1. The distributions did not bring X11 along, even with a full all download,
    or a custom setup.

2. The ports make of XFree86 did fine, but the make install comes back with
    an ``mtree/BSD.X11.dist'' file not found.

Clearly I have something with an undotted i or and uncrossed t somewhere.
1. may indicate that the ``current'' ftp site has a link off somewhere, or
that the install scripts in 3.0-snap are off somewhere. 2. would indicate
that there is a sequential set of installing that needs to be completed
before an X11 port will build and install, as if some preliminary tidbits
required a prior install (or a setup) and were out of sequence. The existing
files in /etc/mtree are the include, local, root, user, and var files.
The install scripts in /sys/standinstall may be off or I may be poking the
wrong values into it somewhere, and things are getting off in sequence.

Can someone kindly quote the page/paragraph in the manuals that cover ports
installations or X11 installations? I want to get it installed, but I want
to find out WHY it is not installing, and what the proper logic is.
I was under the impression that ports should install ``out of the box''
with nothing more than a traditional make/make install.

If not, mebbie I need to port the sources from scratch, dittle a make file,
or hand patch something, somwhere, or drop back to a stable branch.

Pointers appreciated.....

Almost there..... just slow.....
