Have you put the SAME IP address on both cards?  This is not allowed and
will confuse other hosts on the LAN!

In actual fact, it will probably work as long as both cards with the
same IP address remain in the same host.  It just that this host will
appear to have a split personality (two different MAC addresses mapping
to the same IP address) to other host on the LAN.  You will see the
'arp' messages on the consoles of other hosts while this situation
presists.
