If you wouldn't mind, a Cc: to crs@swcp.com would be nice in case I
get behind in the news group again.

Here's what I have:

FreeBSD box running 2.1.5. I'm using user ppp with demand dialing.
I have cron go out during the night and bring back any mail that's
accumulataded at my ISP, run sendmail in case there are any queued
messages, and synchronize my time with NIST.

Here's what I would like to do:

Set things up so that cron will go to my ISP and retrieve a limited
number of news grousp. This one (obviously :), rec.hunting, and a
few other groups. Not much volume--only a small fraction of what's
out there.

The problem is that I've never set up anything like that before. I
don't know what is the best way to go or how to set it up once I've
decided. I've heard of slurp and suck. but I can't find any
information with enough detail or background to allow me to decide
which of those or others may be the better choice, much less how to
set things up. I know that there are probably configuation files
that I need but not what they all are, where they need to go, or
what must go into them. I do know that simply doing

	pkg_add ..../slurp....

	slurp ISP

isn't enough...... :)

So--has anyone done this? If so would you mind sharing what you
did?

What are the prerequisites (other software the slurp or whatever
depends upon being available)?

Configuration files? What? Where? What's in them?

Running the news-getter manually?

Running it from cron?

Gotchas?

Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.
