Don't know about the second problem, but netscape comes with a file
called XKeysymDB, you should replace your old XKeysymDB with this one.
It should solve your problems.
I'm surprised you didn't find this already, it's in the README for
netscape.
I don't think it has anything to do with afterstep
I seem to remeber I ran that once just to check it out, and netscape
loaded fine.
