Until very recently, I had an old Epson MX-82F/T (manufactured in
1981!) running under Linux as my primary printer. And the amazing
thing was, that it was still running happily with it's first
print-head, though the thing has been with me since my old Apple ][+
days (and it was in use constantly, at times churning out high-volume
database-listings, in office, later at home, etc.).

The main problem in later days was getting new ink-ribbons, and
getting it to work with some applications (ghostscript among them)
required some patching, as the MX-82F/T was not quite compatible with
later-day Epson 9-pinners, like the FX-Series...

But getting 144x214dpi postscript out of it was pretty impressive (if
a tad slow and loud ;).

Regs, Pierre.

(now using a LaserJet 5L, which I guess won't last more than a quarter
of the time my Epson MX did ;)
