mpg123 is the best player there is that I've seen for FreeBSD.  It works
well when used with tk3play as the interface.

Have you _ever_ had any sound on your system?  i.e. have you tried playing
sounds with wav players, etc. in FreeBSD?

I think a few more details are in order - What sound card are you using?
What kernel settings have you set up for it?
etc..
