One of the _problems_ with "rc.conf" is that it lacks examples of the syntax of some of the entries, unlike "sysconfig" which was quite self-documenting! The syntax for the "lo0" entry is somewhat different to that of a normal NIC entry, lacking the netmask portion. This is what probably confused the original poster. I too would have found rc.conf far more confusing if I was not already familiar with the sysconfig file of old... Tony
