Any help would do

I am running on a p-120 with 32megs of ram, primary master eide
dirive- maxtor 720 meg Hard drive, primary slave - 850 maxtor,
secondary master eide tosiba 12x cd-rom. Adaptech 2940 controler
with figitsu 320 scsi 1 HD, hitachi 720 scsi 1HD and an exobyte 8200
8 mm tape drive. Video is an ATI 3d expression on a sony 15sf
monitor.

I am using the partition manager that can with OS2 warp, I think it
is partition magic. Works well, allows me to boot from any drive :-).

I am using the 720 meg SCSI dive which maps to my fourth drive on the
machine. When I am in the Fdisk that comes with BSD I allocate all
of the drive for BSD and I used the auto feature to set up the
different slices of the partition. I used the Novice install and
allowed BSD to automate the install as much as possible. I get the
sucessful completion mesage at the end. But when I reboot and direct
the partition manager to boot BSD it goes through all the probiing
fine it just cant mount root.

On my machine the drives in the Free BDS fdisk utility are

wdc0
wdc1
sd0
sd1

I am trying to install to the sd1 drive with the following set up

sd1s1a /
sd1s1b swap
sd1slc /var
sd1s1e /usr
sd1s2a /usr/home

s1 being 499 meg and s2 139 meg so s1 is less than 512 megs.

the boot manager gets to the right partition, but at the end of the
boot BSD tries & fails to mount root, the lines on screen are as
follows:

Changing root device to sd3a
panic can't mount root.

I don't have a sd3 device even thought sd1 is my fourth drive.

Thanks in advance for any help
