Thanks for the response.  FWIW, there is a v3 available at blackdown,
which is probably worth trying...  


(btw--wrt to my previous posts on package management comparisons
between freebsd and redhat linux--I've recently moved to debian linux,
and the package management there is much, much better.  I think they
learned a lot from freebsd's system... and there are some things about
it which are better).
