One word: ghostscript :-)

Anything matching there?
Ghostscript is a postscript interpreter for a lot of devices, including
the above mentioned. If you install apsfilter, too, then you can pipe
postcript files into lpr and they get automatically processed by
ghostscript before being send to the printer.
