This is a Call For Votes (CFV) for the following groups:

	comp.os.386bsd.announce (moderated)
	comp.os.386bsd.bugs
	comp.os.386bsd.development
	comp.os.386bsd.apps
	comp.os.386bsd.questions
	comp.os.386bsd.misc

All of them are intended to be devoted to the discussion of the
386bsd Operating System, a BSD Net-2 derivative. Discussion of
this operating system is currently carried out on the newsgroup
comp.unix.bsd.

The proposed groups would have the following functions:

comp.os.386bsd.announce (moderated):

This would be a moderated newsgroup, for announcements
relating to the 386bsd operating system. I
	(cgd@agate.berkeley.edu) would be the moderator.
Things appropriate for the .announce group
would include announcements of new versions of 386bsd,
announcements of major software releases for 386bsd
(e.g. new version of X11 for 386bsd), announcements
of fixes for major bugs, and the like. FAQs relating to
386bsd should also be cross-posted to this group.

comp.os.386bsd.bugs:

This would be a forum for the presentation and discussion
of bugs, patches, and suggested fixes for 386bsd and software
	which runs under it.

comp.os.386bsd.development:

Discussion of development efforts related to 386bsd.
386bsd is a research operating system, and there
is much effort being put into expanding its functionality
"correctly." This group would contain that discussion.
Additionally, developers of device drivers, etc. could
use this group to keep other 386bsd developers informed
	of their work.

comp.os.386bsd.RFD.386bsd.apps:

Discussion and questions about the applications which run under
386bsd would be posted here. Questions and comments about
porting, as well as using, those applications would also be
	acceptable here.

comp.os.386bsd.questions:

General questions about 386bsd would be posted here.
These could range from questions about installing the
system, to general questions about 386bsd's inner workings,
to questions about 386bsd system administration in general.
Basically, all questions which don't fit in one of the other
	groups should be posted here.

comp.os.386bsd.misc:

Discussion about 386bsd which does not fall into the area
of coverage of any of the other 386bsd groups. Things
posted here should not be crossposted to the other 386bsd
	groups.

Whatever groups pass will be created.
(Hopefully, if any pass, at least .announce and .misc will...)

HOW TO VOTE:

The vote will last from the time this is posted on news.groups
(by Dave Lawrence) until 12:00 (NOON) EST, January 31, 1993.

(the following text provided by Jonathan Kamens, the vote-taker)

In order to vote for or against this newsgroup, you must send a mail
message to the address mail-server@pit-manager.mit.edu (if you reply
via mail to this message, your mail will be directed to that address).
If your site does not understand that address, you might try:

	mail-server%pit-manager.mit.edu@athena.mit.edu
	mit-athena!pit-manager.mit.edu!mail-server
	uunet!pit-manager.mit.edu!mail-server

If none of these addresses works, talk to someone at your site who can
help you address the mail properly. Posted votes will not be counted.
Votes mailed to the poster of this message will not be counted.

Your mail should contain in its body one line for each vote you want
to cast. The line should be in the format "vote newsgroup myvote",
where "newsgroup" is the name of the newsgroup for which you are
voting and "myvote" is either "yes", "no" or "abstain". To vote
easily, you can cut-and-paste the following lines and replace the
string MYVOTE at the end of each with the vote you want to cast:

	vote comp.os.386bsd.announce MYVOTE
	vote comp.os.386bsd.bugs MYVOTE
	vote comp.os.386bsd.development MYVOTE
	vote comp.os.386bsd.apps MYVOTE
	vote comp.os.386bsd.questions MYVOTE
	vote comp.os.386bsd.misc MYVOTE

A vote of "yes" indicates approval of the newsgroup. A vote of "no"
indicates opposition to it. A vote of "abstain" cancels any previous
vote for or against it.

Multiple votes from the same person should be sent from the same
address, although they do not have to be sent in one E-mail message.
If multiple votes for a particular group are received from the same
person, the last vote received for that group is the only one counted.

You should receive a response to your vote, acknowledging its
receipt, within two days. If you do not, or if you have some other
problem with voting, you can get help by sending mail to
postmaster@pit-manager.mit.edu.

The hardware resources for vote collection are being provided by the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The vote-collection software
is being provided by Jonathan Kamens <jik@athena.mit.edu>. Neither
MIT nor Jonathan Kamens has anything to do with the newsgroup
proposal; they're just collecting the votes as a neutral third party.
