We won't be supporting packages under 2.1 anymore.  BUT most ports will
still build fine (if you are willing to build rather than install
precompiled binaries).  If you find something that won't build and run
under 2.1.7, the ports team would be happy to accept any diffs to fix the
problem (as least I would).

At the point the 2.2.2 relase was made, it was the same as 2.2-stable.
Now stable has had 1-2 weeks to move past 2.2.2.
