'foo' is actually 'fu' of 'fubar' where 'fubar' is 'fouled up beyond all
recognition'. I think 'fubar' originated at MIT. 'snafu' (situation normal:
all fouled up) is a navy term, though.

Switching subjects: the october 1996 issue of IEEE 'Computer', vol. 29, no. 10,
has a picture of the 'moth' that got fried in Mark II's relay. This led to
the term 'bug'.
