Does waiting overnight count? I did actually leave everything be and shut
off only the monitor at around 7:00 PM. The next day around 10:00 AM
nothing had changed at all. Do you think I waited sufficiently long
enough?

Yes the sysinstall is a nice addition but I would think that it could
at least install the basic system before going out to lunch. Once you
have a running system methods of adding are not so limited. Provided
that root doesn't reach 109% Capacity (which did annihilate and otherwise
succesful install).

Well after 18 attempts, I finally did get what I wanted the way I wanted
it. Maybe sysinstall requires both endurance and patience. Some packages
never would install. Sometimes some did and sometimes they did not. No
real discernable pattern was seen.

And keep doing it 'til you get it right buggy software notwithstanding.
