BSDI has a package install system.  It is built around a tar file format
and arrangement of script files and binaries within the file.  If you
had BSDI, it would be described in full under the installsw(8) man page.
Seeing as you don't, maybe BSDI might be happy to furnish you with it. 
Ask nicely.
