I have to agree. I work for a telecom company, running their ISP, and my
personal belief is that permanent connections are the way of the future. I
think that the local telecom providers have to realize this and find a way
to deal with it.

The cable television companies have a big edge in that way right now. The
hybrid fiber-coax network used by modern cable TV networks is excellent for
providing wide-area high-speed networking, and having "nailed up"
connections makes no difference. The topology is more like Ethernet, and
doesn't have the problems associated with a switched network. I can see
the possibility that local telcos may want to string their own HFC networks
to handle data traffic, simply because it's a far superior architecture for
the job. It may not be perfect, mind you, but it's a heck of a lot better
than switched unshielded (un)twisted copper pairs.

Myself, I don't leave my ISDN nailed up, but the connect speed between the
routers is such that I really don't notice. It might as well be nailed up
for all intents and purposes.

Still seeking multi-LUN SCSI help,

Rob
