First thing I did was check if finger was enabled. :)
I did a total re-install of the system and this has fixed the problem.
Obviously one of the network files in /etc contained something
prohibiting me from fingering....can't fingure out which one though.

Now I've got my DNS running again. Now need to fix my WWW server so that
I can see it locally.
