i have a tapestore 8000 from seagate attached to an
adaptec 2940au. i was running freebsd215 but the kernel
didn't handle that scsi card so i'm now running the 217 kernel.
but with the 215 commands and libs (is that crazy?)

these travan tapes are preformatted. i did this:
	echo hi>>/dev/rst0
and now everytime i try to use that tape i get an I/O error.

is it possible to mess up the formatting via a unix command?
that seems kind of lame if so
