Many of the parameters are set in a little file param.c that's created/copied
into the compile directory when you run configure.  Lots of them are dependent
on the maxusers line in the configuration file, jacking up maxusers to like
16 or 32 is a good way to say, "bigger system".  Other parameters that are
calculated on the fly can often be overridden by putting an initial value in
a global variable, but you have to dig into the source for that.
