No idea.  IIRC somebody has even been posting QFA patches years ago,
but i have no idea whether they were functional or not.  I would have
to dig through all the mail archives on my optical disk.

The first is probably that you need to make tar(1) using lseek(2).
This can easily be tested on floppies.  You need to find a reliable
way to tell whether the lseek() worked (and if not, still resort to
the old method).  Or you make it an option to tar.
