The famed 'mtools' package is the answer - must be somewhere in the fbsd
ports collection. Doesen't require you to manually mount drives, has a
ms-dos like interface.

As always, the fbsd handbook. Either recompile the kernel to remove
drivers for devices you do not have or run UserConfig every time you
boot up fbsd (-c at the boot: prompt).
