Okay...so all you would need is an OS capable of running on an 8086 and
supporting XFree86.  Right ?

Yes that is correct....
You've corrected my mistake.  The XT should be running as the server.
The clients run on the FreeBSD box and use the XT as the display.
Now all I need is an X server capable of running on an ancient and slow
XT ! :)
