Once I got freeBSD 2.1.7 installed, I never managed to boot to it. It
seems like the boot manager never gets installed on MBR and I get "NO BASIC
SYSTEM" (or something similar) from the bios.

sd0 has linux only partitions. LILO was previously installed but later
removed, hoping that this would improve my chances to boot to freeBSD.

sd1 was empty. I installed a DOS partition, to tmp store the install files,
and the rest is for freeBSD on sd2s2 (for whom I did set up the S flag to
make it active). Presently, I cannot even do a "a> sys c:" on it from dos
because it says there is no room to put the system files (!).

Before the installation of "Average Distribution", I requested that MBR be
installed, but nothing appeared about this issue again and I can only assume
that it was done. Currently I know of no way of booting to freeBSD. If I
use boot.flp and answer with "sd(1,a)kernel" (or all possible combination
thereof, i.g. sd(1,b)/kernel, etc.) most of the time I get prompted back
and I have to reboot in order to re-install again. Tried to fixit.flp
during installation, but I cannot make out what is really going on since
this is my first time on a bsd system.

Any answer on any of these questions will be greatly appreciated, most likely
it solve my problem:

 1. Is there a way to boot with LILO ? I have already tried with no success.
 2. Is there a way to boot with a kernel on a custom floppy that will load
    the proper / filesystem?
 3. What is the name of the freeBSD boot loader and how can I install it?

         Thanks
