I remember reading that you should defrag the disk first -> I'm not a fan
of FIPS (I only tried it once with Linux) and prefer fresh partitions and
installation.  Read the FreeBSD handbook (Walnut Creek) pages 61-62 which 
is included with the CD distribution.
