Sorry to worry you Jordan, no bug!

This problem is now fixed. All it took was an adjustment to the BIOS AT
bus speed setting to make the NE2000 happy.

I'm proud to say my FreeBSD (2.2 GAMMA) Internet gateway, that cost
$0.00 by putting to use an old 486DX33, is happily humming away! 

Now I have to setup a dual-boot on my workstation, and maybe eventually
delete that Windows altogether :-)
