I don't use FreeBSD myself. : -is Bad idea to follow up my own posting but it may be useful to someone somewhere. In Freebsd one has to mount the entire filesystem if one needs to mount a file in it. The exports file needs a special flag and so does the mount daemon. My problem was that I did not have the devices made in the root partition on the server and that was the reason for the install hanging.
