It has been mentioned in this group (in the last few weeks), that running
Netscape as root screws up something, so that other users can't use
it any more. I don't know anything more about this, since I've never
run Netscape as root - I'd never trust it that much.
I don't know hom much this relates to your problem, though.
Doesn't the /etc/pwd.db exit on your system? Perhaps you
can rebuild it somehow from /etc/passwd ?
