This is normal.

Does /etc/XF86Config look like:
Section "Pointer"
    Protocol    "PS/2"
    Device      "/dev/psm0"
    Emulate3Buttons
    Emulate3Timeout    50
EndSection

It must in order to work, although the TouchPad stuff might be a bit
different to get the 'tapping' feature to work.  The above should get
you started.
