I don't know what the problem is with your xterm, sorry.  I can say that
I am having no problems with FreeBSD 2.1.7 and XFree86 3.1

As for the CDROM problem, I can use my CDROM as a slave on the primary
controller, but not as the master on my secondary controller.  I have
found that under 2.2-GAMMA, it does work just fine.  Just waiting for
the 2.2-RELEASE!
