: Anyway, i think 2.2 looks quite good already. You can't compare it
: e.g. to the quality 2.0R once had (for various and known reasons).

Well, the past Announcements/Release Notes make interesting reading!

2.0Alpha:"very pleased to announce...release of 2.0 Alpha...a host of new
features, filesystetms, and enhanced driver support....We hope you enjoy
it!"

2.0Release:"RELEASE is now far less dangerous [we hope :-)] than ALPHA
was!"

2.0.5 Alpha:"a significant improvement over FreeBSD 2.0R...while not up
to the `full release quality' we hope to have for 2.1R,it's certainly
more stable and nicer to use than 2.0R!"

2.0.5 Release:(June 10):"the final release in the 2.0.5 series...a
stable and much easier-to-install alternative to 2.0R."
(June 12) "As a result of the feedback we have had about the original
2.0.5-RELEASE,we have gone poking and found a couple of bugs..."

and so on...never forgetting the note in 2.1.5 GAMMA about how the
previous SNAP had to be pulled..."a few decidedly fatal kernel bugs were
found".2.1.5,2.1.6,2.1.6.1,and now 2.1.7 have each been introduced
as the final stable bugfix version of their branch!

I do hope lessons learned make 2.2.x smoother.
