Greetings:

I am in need of some help. (or proding)

I have just installed 2.1.6-RELEASE from CDROM. I am having problems
booting. When I read the manual (page 77 of "The Complete FreeBSD")
It describes my problem exactly. The install appeared to run fine,
then when attempting to boot, the boot manager prints "F?" and does
not accept any input. It tells me that I have installed with the
incorrect geometry. I must repartition with the correct geometry
and reinstall. I can understand that but.... This is where I have
problems.

During the installation, I received a WARNING:

A geometry of 4032/10/104 for sd0 is incorrect. Using a default geometry
of 64 heads and 32 sectors. If this is incorrect or you are unsure as to
whether or not it's correct, consult your hardware manual.

The disk is a Seagate ST32107N or actually Conner CFP2107S. The web page
for Seagate shows the drive geometry as cyl=4016 heads=10 sectors=104

The partition editor complains that this is also incorrect. What do I
do?

The book also mentions that if you select the entire disk, then this
will
leave all geometry considerations aside. I did select "a" in the
partition
editor. This selection results in a question about whether to co-exist
with another OS. The only reason I answered the default yes to this, was
because when I answered No and confirmed it with another prompt, I could
not set the "a" flag on the partition. ( hitting the s key to mark the
partition as bootable) This action would not result in any change. I had
to go back through and take the default answer about co-existing and
then
I was able to mark the partition as bootable.

Any help to this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Keith
