        First, thank you for the useful info.  I was hoping somebody 
would point out what I missed.

        I haven't tried this yet, but I'm sure you are right.  This 
was the crucial thing I missed.  I think it would be helpful if the 
documentation could be amended to make this point *explicitly* (that 
you have to create the "extra" device nodes).  The "MS-DOS user's 
Questions and Answers" section assumes you have already done this.  
Seems to me that the steps you set out could be inserted into the 
docs.  It's *so* useful to have a step-by-step thing, especially when 
your mind is already swimming in an ocean of new information.

        The rest of the way (as you noted with reference to my first 
primary dos partition) I understood.  It's those damn details, ya 
know. :-)
