His impression is very correct.

I've been searching for a good word processor for quite some time now
without much luck. I don't want to buy Motif just to demo an
application. Motif would probably cost approx. $150.00 (CDN) if I
chose to run the StarOffice applications. In fact, I'd love to run
StarOffice, it sounds like an excellent collection of apps. and the
screen shots I have seen look like there are many features I look for.

Just because they don't charge for the Linux version doesn't make it
cheap, if you don't have Motif. I would spend $150.00 in a second if
I thought I would like the program. $150.00 to NOT like the program
is where I have problems.

Funny... Most of the replies in this thread say there are "lots of WP
applications available" but noone can list any. I've tried the ones I
have found (maybe three) and all are seriously lacking in features.
The other apps I have found were just text editors with more than
average features (I'll stick with emacs, thanks).

I love Linux (rarely run MS* apps at home anymore) but I have to agree
with the original poster. There are very few word processing
applications for Linux. Cheap would be nice (I don't mind buying high
quality programs, regardless of price). Free would be better. Just
having a selection is what is desperately required. After all, not
everyone likes the exact same programs you or I like. We shouldn't
all be forced to run a single app for lack of variety. It only hurts
Linux in the long run.
