The key words here are "without any DOS software," in other words, get
the non-kit 1542B package. I believe the kit can be found for ~$240 and
the non-kit for < $200 ($170?). Look in _Computer Shopper_.

However, I wouldn't recommend using the MT02 & (Archive 5945C|Wangtek ?)
combination found in old Sun shoeboxes. The MT02 is a SCSI<->QIC-36
translator btw. I was using this combination for some time, but found it
unreliable. I was using the original 0.1 scsi driver and not Julian's
so your milage may vary.

The shoeboxes sometimes contain ESDI drives with an ESDI<->scsi interface
(don't recall the board name). I didn't get this combination to work at all.
