Since a user-mode application on a 68020 can saturate a 10 Mbps ethernet
(observed behaviour) I didn't originally believe that the user-mode NFS
server on Linux was a bottleneck... and being in user-mode *should* have
given it much better UNIX-like behaviour for the corner cases that NFS is
so entertainingly strange in.

The *previous* discussion on NFS performance on Linux gave me reason to doubt
this assumption, but if there are *other* problems with the stack that might
explain the results it opens things up again.
