When you installed freebsd did you assign it an ip and all that?  On
boot does it recognize the net card?  can you ping yourself?  can you
ping the macs?  can the macs ping you?

for an internal internet, you should use ip #'s
192.168.0.1-192.168.255.255 and probably a netmask of 255.255.0.0
