I just downloaded "real" ksh from 

	http://www.research.att.com/sw/tools/reuse/

for bsd/386, and it seems to work under freebsd.

I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to use an emulation mode shell
as my login shell, but watching your complaints makes me think it's
worth trying.
