you know, i'm pretty sure unless you've modified the irq & such, that that's
the wrong info.  for at least toshiba's and kiwi's, the settings i have for
the touchpad on bootup is:

psm0 at 0x60-0x63 irq 12 on motherboard

the settings you have are quite definitely for com1, and i'm sure the
laptop is getting confused with the two (since irq 4 & 0x3f8 is where
the default com1 lives).
