The fact that your Linux installation has a small memory footprint may or
may not be relevant to functionality as a whole.  If you have a 32MB
machine, for example, do you want that memory being used to capacity, or
do you want 31688000 bytes sitting idle?

While I would agree that it is "good" that any given program designed to
perform some specific task statically occupy as little RAM as possible, I
think that dynamic memory-handling under load conditions is much more
important.

This is a comment, not an argument. :)
