1) Word isn't inexpensive. Try buying a fresh copy with no trade in...

Motif will only attempt to transform a completely free desktop to a non-free
one. I'd prefer static linked apps (StarOffice Beta 3 is one such app even
though the install program is still dynamically linked) because I'd rather
spend my cash on RAM/CPU than on software.

Let's not start the WP vs. formatter debate again. I see them targeting
different markets. Just one question: What features are lacking in the
three products that put near WYSIWYG and direct manipulation interfaces
on text formatters (specifically LyX, SciTEXt, and EZ)?
