Part 3 of the BSD license (``All advertising materials...'') did
indeed conflict with the GPL (which doesn't say anything about such
things).  While this requirement might have made sense back in the
time when ``The Regents and the Contributors'' were the only mentioned
origin of the source, it looked a little stale (und useless and
unenforcable) these days.  That's why the FreeBSD Project officially
decided to no longer recommend it.
