So what you're saying is that because BSD licence merely allows,
rather than forcing, you to redistribute source code, something
can't be under both licences at once? 

The BSD licence does *not* say that you must be able to withhold
the source code. It doesn't say anything at all about distribution
of source code.

The GPL says you must redistribute source code, and the BSD licence
allows this. So there's no conflict.

Again, I'd like to see the actual bit of text from a BSD licence
that you think conflicts with the GNU licence. I think if you read
the BSD licence carefully, you will find that there is no conflict.
