I'm wondering, why there are different major device numbers for the
same device driver in 386BSD, depending on wether it is used as a
block or character device.

For the SCSI block devices the major number is 4, for the character
devices it seems to be 13, but there are also SCSI devices with 11.

How can I determine the correct major device number for a specific
device ? In the config file "devices.i386" there is only number 4
listed for device "as".

Another magic thing which I don't understand:
If I want to access /dev/rfd0a (for example with tar) I must also have
access to /dev/fd0a. Why that ?
