The solution is simple.  Put the hard drive at a SCSI ID less than 7.
I'd put it at SCSI ID 0 and put the CD-ROM at 5.  Since the 2940UW fails
to work in wide mode you should put all needed devices at a SCSI ID 0
thru 7 until you troubleshoot and correct the problem as to why the
2940UW is not working in wide mode under FreeBSD.
