Hi there,

I'm trying to do a minimal install of 2.1.6 on the same HD as Win 95
either from the Dos partition or from floppies.

Everything goes smoothly (creating a new partition, installing boot
manager...) until the time comes to extract the data from the dist.
files.

I've downloaded all the files in the "2.1.6-release/bin" directory
(bin.aa, etc.), and put them in c:\freebsd\bin. On install I get these
messages:
.
bin
bin/cat
pid31(gunzip), uid0: exited on signal 11
/stand/cpio: premature end of file
"can't find a kernel image to link to on the root..."

I've tried putting the files in c:\bin, installing from floppies, and
similar strategies; same result.

Have I got the right files? Have I put them in a reasonable Dos
directories?
If anyone can help I'd be most grateful. I have no experience (yet)
with FreeBSD or Unix so I may have missed something completely obvious
- if I have don't be too polite to point it out!

thanks,

Ian Fennell
