Knews creates temporary files in /var/tmp . Check if the directory
is writable by you, and make it writeable if it's not. Or the partition
where /var/tmp resides may be over 90% full, which prevents non-roots
from writing to it. Check your diskspace with df(1) (first section of
the manual -- `man 1 df').

Would be nice if knews did a bit more of error reporting, by, at
least, using strerror(3) ... Ever tried to run knews with no DISPLAY
env-variable set?
